Index of the Uncanny
The works in this collection operate on the precipice of the uncanny. The human form is present but consistently altered and placed in distress by internal and external forces. These physical manipulations serve as potent metaphors for psychological fragmentation and masculine vulnerability.
The artworks are drawing heavily on the concept of abjection, understood as the breakdown of the boundaries between the self and the otherness, we witness transformations of the body into an undefined and contested landscape. The dark, viscous fluids and the dissolving facial topographies challenge the viewer to confront the fragility of their own corporeal boundaries. The recurring motif of the obscured gaze, through different masks, questions what is allowed to be seen and what remains hidden in the depths of the modern psyche.
Index of the Uncanny is not a documentary of alienation or alterity. It invites the audience to look beyond the surface, urging an introspective dialogue about identity and the haunting beauty found in our most vulnerable states.
