Blank portraits are the body itself transformed into a persona that the world can crave for, admire, gossip, the story of love and hate, just the intimate relation a creator has with its creation. Do we blot out the traces of the personality or do we exaggerate on those
peculiarities? Are the relationships with ourselves and others incidental, or are we complicating the artificial lighting that we are living in, over-industrialized, over-exposed, overwhelmed with options and configurations.
Photography and subjectivity are interconnected, intertwined and overlapping in the folds of layered light and self. We talk about a net of self-consciousness, ambiguity and fluidity of self, just as a surface to make ephemeral emotions come forth.
Blank portraits are a land of all possibilities, a new experience of the portrait that encapsulates the selected artists’ approaches to contemporary portraiture until the self-portraits as a fictive identity. The selected artists work with the notion of self-mapping, identity that are wrapped around the limits personal and of intimacy. Some work with their own body, others are an admirer of the gaze of hidden truths.
Portraiture is one of the genres of photography, dominant, classical, omnipresent in a portfolio of artistic approach, as a grain of salt and the white noise sound of contemporary gender role redefinition.
